March 13, 2006: Probation Blog Wants Your Views
The Probation Journal is
publishing a Special Edition in December 2006, marking the centenary of the
Probation
Service in England in Wales, on 'The Future of Crime and Rehabilitation'.
There have been many significant change over the last 100
years. Some suggest the Probation Service itself is now under threat; if not the
organisation, then the values and ethos of rehabilitative work with offenders
are under threat. The Probation Service is moving away from advise, assist &
befriend to punish, monitor & manage risk. The nature and context of criminal
justice work is also changing.
To explore such issues the Probation Journal has set up a
Blog to encourage open
debate and exploration from those concerned with UK criminal justice, and
especially those closely connected with the probation service. Practitioners'
perspectives are particularly sought. An edited version
of this Blog debate will be published in the December Special Edition. You are
encouraged to visit the Blog
and add your comments.
